The second edition of the flor d’ametller award goes to the Federació de Ciclisme d’Illes Balears (Balearic Islands Cycling Federation).

Vilafranca de Bonany, February 25, 2023 – The Minister of Economic Promotion and Local Development, Jaume Alzamora, has released this Saturday the Flor de Almendro award, which this year reaches its second edition. The award, promoted by the Council of Mallorca and the IGP Almond of Mallorca has decided to give to the Federation of Cycling of the Balearic Islands. On its behalf, Fernando Gilet has collected a ceramic piece made by the Mallorcan artisan Miquel Segura.

This award aims to recognize the work of individuals or entities that promote the almond, its cultivation and consumption. On this occasion, the distinction has been for the Federation of Cycling of the Balearic Islands.

Antoni Bonafé, president of the IGP Ametlla de Mallorca explained that “sport, and specifically rural cycling, values this landscape conservation carried out by all those involved in the cultivation of almonds”.

Alzamora has pledged to continue supporting producers and announced the launch of an advertising campaign encouraging the purchase of local produce. In fact, according to the counselor, “the promotion is essential to publicize an excellent product and thus increase consumption. In this sense, *Alzamora has encouraged the purchase of goods, products and services of zero kilometer and short circuit. According to *Alzamora, “From the Council we will continue promoting lines of aid with which we contribute to consolidate and strengthen the local productive fabric of Mallorca”.

The event was also attended by, among others, the Insular Director of Economic Promotion and Local Produce of the Consell de Mallorc, Joan Font; the general director of Agriculture, Livestock and Rural Development, Fernando Fernandez; representatives of the Agro-food Cooperatives, the president of the DO Oil of Mallorca, Joan Mayol. The award, which is part of the events organized to celebrate World Almond Day, has been released in a ceremony at the farm Son Pou de Mayorada, in Vilafranca de Bonany, owned by the producer of the IGP Ametlla de Mallorca, Miquel Riera.
