For the president of the IGP, Miquel Riera, this first edition has been “a great showcase to highlight the importance of the island’s almonds”
More than 4,000 people have approached this Saturday at the Ametlla de Mallorca Christmas Fair, on Paseo del Born in Palma, to taste and buy authentic Mallorcan almonds and typical Christmas products offered by the Regulatory Council of the Protected Geographical Indication and different companies that work with certified almonds. A first edition that, according to these companies, “has been a success of sales and has generated a lot of atmosphere and expectation among the public both resident and visitor that has approached it throughout the day”.
The new president of the IGP Ametlla de Mallorca, Miquel Riera, said that “it has been a great showcase to highlight and remember the importance of almonds in many typical products that we eat in Mallorca at Christmas”, and stressed that the almond of the island “gives a unique taste and texture to sweets, as people have been able to see today”. Almendras Capó, Ametlla+ from Mallorca, Bessó de Mallorca, Camp Mallorquí, Fet a Sóller and Galletes Rossellons participated in this first edition of the Christmas Fair.
The fair was attended by authorities by the Councilor for Economy, Commerce, Self-employed, Health, Consumer Affairs, Markets and Fairs, Guadalupe Ferrer; the municipal director general of Commerce, Antoni Fuster; the regional director general of Food Quality and Local Product, Joan Llabrés, the regional director general of Agriculture, Livestock and Rural Development, Fernando Fern’ndez; and the island councilor for Economic Promotion and Local Development, Pilar Amate
Finally, from the Regulatory Council of the IGP Ametlla de Mallorca, we also wanted to thank the financial support of the Consell Insular de Mallorca and the collaboration of the Palma City Council through Palma Activa to carry out this first Christmas Fair, which they hope “to be the first of many more editions and consolidate as a Christmas fair to promote one of our most traditional foods and with a differentiated quality seal such as Mallorca”.
